

Ray BartonDirector/Principal at SVA
Raymond Barton is the Director/Principal for the Sultan Virtual Academy. He considers Arizona his home because he has lived here since the 8th grade. In his early childhood, he lived in many places because his father was in the Army. When his father retired after 20 plus years in the Army, the family moved to Arizona to be with family. Raymond graduated from Apache Junction High School. He received a Bachelor’s in Education from Arizona State University and began his teaching carrier in 2005. He taught one year in Apache Junction, Arizona. For the last sixteen years, he has taught in Bagdad, Arizona. Mr. Barton has taught both in junior high and high school, mainly teaching social studies. Besides teaching, he has been an assistant football coach and the varsity girls basketball coach. Along with coaching, he has been a club and class sponsor. Ray received his Master’s in Educational leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2021.
He has been married for 22 years. With three children, a daughter that is 26. Who works with adults that have autism. A son is 20 who is a Junior at Northern Arizona University. His youngest daughter is 18 and is a Freshman at Northern Arizona University.
He looks forward to working together to grow Sultan Virtual Academy. Mr. Barton is also looking forward to working with you, the partners, and the students to provide a fulfilling educational experience.

MaryAlys Nardo Online Instructor
MaryAlys Nardo is an online instructor for Sultan Virtual Academy. She is originally from the Central Coast of California, but has enjoyed living in Northern Arizona for the past 12 years. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2006, and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 2010. She has experience teaching in a wide variety of grade levels and subject areas including elementary and middle school.
She has a true passion for working with learners of all ages. Helping each child progress in all areas of development—academic, social, and emotional—is a challenge that she is honored to accept daily. She strives to create a community of learners that nurtures this growth in a positive, fun environment.
She has been married for 8 wonderful years to her husband. They are parents to two daughters, ages 6 and 7. They love spending time together, taking family trips to new places, and being outdoors.
She looks forward to working together with you as partners in your child’s growth and development.
